Select Stewart Sign models now offer LED Illumination
An LED illuminated sign for the Arkansas River Power Authority in Lamar, CO.
Stewart sign models are now available with LED Illumination instead of fluorescent lighting. Using LED illumination technology, you can experience better energy efficiency, lower operating cost and longer life with less maintenance. Read on for more information.
LED Illumination vs Fluorescent Lamps
When it comes to illuminating your header or identification cabinet there is an exciting new option to consider: LED Illumination.
While fluorescent lamps are still mainstream, LED illumination is becoming a popular choice for energy savings.
Benefits of LED Illumination
LEDs are extremely energy efficient and provide 50-70% energy savings over traditional Fluorescent lit signs. In addition, Fluorescent lamps operate best around room temperature. At much higher or lower temperatures the efficiency decreases even more. LEDs are not affected by either extreme.
LEDs are made from non-toxic materials, unlike fluorescent lighting which uses mercury that poses a danger to the environment. LEDs are also recyclable and considered “green” or Earth-Friendly.
LEDs have a lifespan of up to 50,000 hours or over 5 years (constant use) before needing replacement. The long lifespan of LEDs will dramatically reduce maintenance costs and lower long-term operating costs compared to traditional fluorescent lamps. Also, LED illumination does not require the use of ballasts which need periodic replacement.
LED lights operate at low voltages so they are cool to the touch and can be left on for hours without incident. Also, Since LEDs don’t use fragile components, LEDs are able to withstand shock, vibration and extreme temperature.
What is an LED?
An LED (Light Emitting Diode) is a semiconductor device that illuminates when electricity passes through it. An LED light is a tiny chip encapsulated in an epoxy resin enclosure.
